How to delete an Instagram account?

Deleting an Instagram account is a permanent action that removes your profile, photos, videos, comments, and followers. This is often done if you no longer wish to use the platform or for privacy concerns. Instagram also provides a temporary deactivation option for those wanting a break.

To permanently delete your Instagram account:

  1. Log in to your Instagram account on a web browser (account deletion is not available via the app).
  2. Go to the Instagram Account Deletion Page.
  3. Select a reason for deleting your account from the dropdown menu.
  4. Re-enter your Instagram password to confirm.
  5. Click Delete [Your Username] to permanently remove your account.

Important Notes:

  • Once deleted, your account cannot be recovered, and all associated data will be lost.
  • Instagram will keep your data for 30 days after the deletion request in case you change your mind. After this period, your data will be permanently erased.
  • If you want to take a break instead, consider temporarily deactivating your account by going to your profile settings under Edit Profile and selecting Temporarily Disable My Account.
